Dear Friends,
This is the 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time. This is also the 3rd Sunday of the Month. I will offer a blessing at the end of Mass for all Married Couples celebrating their Wedding Anniversary in August. Please stand for the blessing when invited to do so.
This Saturday, 20 August, at 10:00AM, I need your support. Our public schools, teachers and students need your support.
I will be at the Piney Woods Elementary School at 814 Amicks Ferry Road to lead school staff, parishioners and others in prayer for the Annual Chapin Schools Prayer Walk. (Our Lady of the Lake has "adopted" Piney Woods as our parish school project.) I will begin with prayer at 10:00AM at the main entrance by the flag pole and then invite all the participants to pray a Rosary as they walk around the school (or remain in the front) praying for a successful school year for all the students, parents, faculty, staff and volunteers. Those attending will return to the main entrance for a final prayer and thank you. There will then be an invitation to go to Chapin High School for an 11:00AM prayer and walk with all churches in Chapin. Please join me on this special day to pray for a safe and successful school year for all!
The Office of the Permanent Diaconate is accepting applications from Catholic men to become a diaconate candidate for the Class of 2028. The applications must be received by the office for evaluation by Oct. 15, 2022, to prepare for the beginning of the discernment process, which begins in January 2023. Applicants must meet the following to enter formation:
Meet with pastor to express an interest in the formation program
Normally, between the ages of 30-55 at time of application (final decision rests with the bishop)
Actively involved in parish ministry for a minimum of three years
Catholic for five years or more
High school diploma or GED at minimum
In good standing with the Catholic Church
If you meet these requirements and are interested in formation please contact me to determine if you should apply. Further information can be found HERE. The diaconate formation process is approximately 5-6 years. I encourage all young men to consider applying in time to replenish our aging diaconate community.

We are celebrating over one year of having the 1PM Mass in the Extraordinary Form here at Our Lady of the Lake. Please join us SUNDAY, 4 SEPTEMBER after the 1pm Latin Mass in St Andrew’s Hall. We will celebrate with a sampling of homemade dishes made by our parishioners from their cultures and ancestries, along with dancing, singing, and sharing our faith with joyful thanksgiving for our first year of the Traditional Latin Mass at OLL. We will miss Jan greatly and are thankful for all the work she did on behalf of engaged couples prior to, and then on, their wedding days. Jan's departure means we are looking for her replacement. Given the on-going threat to Catholic Churches and in recognition of our continued exposure to vandalism we have returned to our pre-covid policy of locking the main church except for scheduled Masses and events. NOTES OF IMPORTANCE FROM
THE DIOCESE
2nd Collection - Bishop's Emergency Disaster Fund
For the past several years, the Bishop has authorized a Second Collection to assist those affected by the devastating impact of hurricanes, wildfires and other natural disasters. This year's impacts will be long-lasting with the loss of life due to the torrential rains and flooding in Kentucky, in addition to the thousands of homes, businesses, and churches across the country that have been severely damaged or destroyed in other tragedies.
Funds collected will become part of the Bishop's Emergency Disaster Fund and will be used to support the efforts of Catholic Charities USA and/or Catholic Relief Services. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops will also be allotted some of the collections' proceeds for pastoral and reconstruction efforts.
The Collection for “Disaster Assistance” is scheduled for the weekend of August 20-21. Please be generous in your giving and in your prayers for families who have lost loved ones, homes and businesses.
St. Clare's Home first year
In honor of the first anniversary of St. Clare's Home on Aug. 11, the diocese released the attached press release detailing the incredible work of the home's mission.

Catholic Night at Segra Park!
Join Catholics from across the midlands to support Catholic Campus Ministry at the University of South Carolina. Here is the basic information:
Date: Tuesday, 23 August, 2022.
Where: Segra Park.
Cost: $15 (includes free hat and $5 of each ticket will go to Catholic Campus Ministry)—also possible at purchase are discount vouchers for food and the kids jump zone.
In addition, it is $2 Tuesday, so all sodas, Miller Lite, hotdogs, and popcorn are $2. Our different parishes and schools will also be dividing up the National Anthem, first pitch, recognition ceremony before the game, etc.
This will be a great way to start the school year and have the parishes and schools of the midlands all out for an evening of fun and fellowship.
